Nice is the capital of the Côte d’Azur and the largest city on the French Riviera, with around 348,000 residents and several million visitors a year. Local buses extend along the coast to Villefranche, Monaco and Cannes, and the SNCF coastal line runs roughly every 20 to 30 minutes between Cannes and Ventimiglia in Italy. For early flights, late cruise arrivals or hotels in the hills above the city, a private transfer is usually the calmer choice.

Best time to visit

May to September is high season, with sea temperatures of 20 to 25 °C and reliable sunshine. June carries the Fête de la Musique, and the Monaco Grand Prix in late May puts pressure on every road and hotel within 30 km of Nice. October still feels warm, and prices drop noticeably from November to March, although some seasonal restaurants close and ferry schedules thin out.

Festivals shape the calendar. The Nice Carnival in February remains a draw despite the cooler temperatures, the Cannes Film Festival in May fills hotels for 50 km in either direction, and the Nice Jazz Festival in July fills the Place Masséna.
