About Frankfurt
Frankfurt am Main is Germany’s financial capital and the seat of the European Central Bank, with about 770,000 residents inside the city limits and 5.9 million across the wider Rhine-Main region. The skyline of glass towers along the Main river earns the nickname “Mainhattan”, while across the river the Sachsenhausen district holds traditional apple-wine taverns and the Museumsufer row of museums. Goethe was born here in 1749, and his birth-house is a five-minute walk from the reconstructed Römerberg square.
Getting around
The RMV operates the U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus network with a single ride at EUR 3.65 inside the city zone. S-Bahn lines S8 and S9 connect FRA to Hauptbahnhof in 11 minutes, while taxis from the rank reach EUR 35 to EUR 45 to the centre. Hahn (HHN) is served by long-distance bus only and has no rail link, so a private transfer is the practical option from there. Pre-booked transfers handle both airports under the same booking flow.
Best time to visit
May to September delivers the warmest weather, with afternoons between 19 and 26 degrees and long evenings along the Main river paths. The Frankfurt Book Fair in October and the Christmas market on Römerberg in December are the busiest visitor weeks, when hotel demand rises sharply across Westend and Bahnhofsviertel. Winter days are generally above freezing but grey, and the city stays open with no seasonal closures of note.
Transferring from Frankfurt’s airports
Frankfurt has two airports under the Frankfurt name. FRA is Europe’s sixth-busiest passenger airport, with Terminals 1 and 2 connected by SkyLine people-mover, and most international and Lufthansa traffic runs through it. HHN sits 110 to 120 km west in the Hunsrück hills and serves Ryanair and Wizz routes, so the road transfer is much longer. Drivers track inbound flights at both airports and include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing.
