About Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of about 7.5 million people split across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and 260-plus outlying islands. Central, Admiralty, and Wan Chai form the financial core on the north shore of Hong Kong Island, while Tsim Sha Tsui faces them across Victoria Harbour. The city is geographically compact but vertically dense, so building names and floor numbers matter as much as street addresses when arranging a transfer.
Getting around
The MTR rail network is fast, clean, and reaches every district, including the airport via the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station in 24 minutes. Trams, Star Ferry crossings, red and green minibuses, and metered taxis fill in the rest. Public transport is excellent, but a private transfer is the simplest option when arriving late, travelling with multiple suitcases, or heading to a residential tower on the Peak, Pok Fu Lam, or in the New Territories.
Best time to visit
October to December offers the most reliable weather, with clear skies, daytime temperatures around 22 to 27 °C, and lower humidity. January and February are cooler and occasionally damp, while May through September is hot, humid, and prone to typhoons that can briefly halt airport operations. Chinese New Year, Easter, and the Rugby Sevens in late March or early April are the busiest periods for inbound transfers.
Transferring from Hong Kong’s airports
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) on Chek Lap Kok island handles almost all commercial flights, 34 km west of Central via the Tsing Ma Bridge and North Lantau Highway. Kai Tak Cruise Terminal occupies the former Kai Tak runway in East Kowloon, and Ocean Terminal at Harbour City berths smaller cruise ships beside Tsim Sha Tsui. Pre-booked transfers cover all three with vehicles sized from saloons to seven-seat MPVs.
