About Palma de Mallorca Airport

Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is the third busiest airport in Spain after Madrid Barajas and Barcelona El Prat, and one of Europe’s largest summer charter hubs. It handles around 30 million passengers a year through a single large terminal split into modules A, B, C and D. The airport sits 8 km east of Palma, between the city and the Playa de Palma beach strip, with direct motorway access to the south-west resorts of Magaluf, Palmanova and Santa Ponsa.

PMI is a major base for Ryanair, Vueling, Eurowings and Air Europa, with seasonal long-haul presence from Condor, TUI and Jet2. The airport handles a sharp summer peak with around 1,000 daily movements in August, dropping to roughly a third of that in February. Recent investments include a refurbished Module D and a major airside expansion programme.

Getting from Palma de Mallorca Airport to Palma de Mallorca

A pre-booked transfer takes around 15 minutes from PMI to a hotel near La Seu cathedral, using the Ma-19 motorway. Public bus EMT line A1 runs to central Palma and to Plaça d’Espanya for further connections, but with luggage, late arrivals or groups a private transfer is usually quicker. Drivers wait inside arrivals with a name sign and a vehicle sized for the booking.

Terminals and pickup points

PMI operates a single terminal divided into:

  • Module A: most non-Schengen flights, including UK and Swiss arrivals.
  • Module B: typically used as overflow in peak season.
  • Module C: Schengen arrivals from Germany, Scandinavia and other EU countries.
  • Module D: domestic Iberia, Air Europa and Vueling.

Pre-booked transfer drivers wait in the central arrivals area on the ground floor between modules A and C.

Common transfer routes from Palma de Mallorca Airport

Typical routes from PMI include:

  • PMI to central Palma and the cathedral, around 15 minutes.
  • PMI to Playa de Palma and Ca’n Pastilla, around 10 minutes.
  • PMI to Magaluf, Palmanova and Santa Ponsa, around 25 to 35 minutes.
  • PMI to Port de Sóller, around 45 to 55 minutes.
  • PMI to Alcúdia and Port de Pollença, around 60 to 75 minutes.
  • PMI to Cala d’Or, around 55 to 70 minutes.

Villa transfers from PMI are common across Mallorca, particularly in the Tramuntana foothills around Sóller, the south-east coast around Santanyí and the rolling country around Pollença. Pre-booked operators work from a GPS pin rather than a street address, which avoids the usual problem of taxis getting lost on unsigned country lanes after dark.

Booking your Palma de Mallorca Airport transfer

Compare licensed Balearic operators on this site for any PMI route. You see one fixed price up front, with meet-and-greet inside the terminal, flight tracking and free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Payment is accepted on Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay, iDEAL, Wero and PayPal.

During peak summer, the taxi rank queue at PMI can exceed 30 minutes after large evening arrivals. A pre-booked transfer with meet-and-greet skips that queue entirely and locks the price in advance, which is helpful for groups splitting the fare or for arrivals on late charter flights.
