About Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt Airport (BER) opened to commercial flights in October 2020, replacing Tegel and Schönefeld as Berlin’s single gateway. It handled roughly 25 million passengers in 2023 and sits in the municipality of Schönefeld, about 18 km south-east of the city centre as the crow flies. The airfield has two parallel runways and three passenger terminals on paper, though only Terminal 1 is currently used for scheduled traffic, with Terminals 2 and 5 mothballed.

Getting from Berlin Brandenburg Airport to Berlin

The A113 motorway is the main road artery, running north-west from the airport into the A100 inner ring and on to the central districts. From the kerb at Terminal 1, central Mitte is 30 km away, Charlottenburg is 35 km and Prenzlauer Berg is 32 km. Pre-booked transfers leave directly from the arrivals exit without queueing at the public taxi rank, and the driver carries the fare details so there is no payment step at the vehicle.

Terminals and pickup points

Terminal 1 has five levels, with check-in on E1 and arrivals on E0. The official meeting point sits on E0 opposite the information desks, and pre-booked drivers wait there with a printed name sign. Travellers leaving from the lower-cost gates at Terminal 1 Pier North still exit through the same arrivals hall, so the meeting point does not change by airline. Terminal 2, when reopened, links to Terminal 1 by a covered walkway and uses the same E0 arrivals area.
