About Vienna International Airport

Vienna International Airport (VIE), at Schwechat 18 km south-east of central Vienna, is the main international airport of Austria. Annual passenger traffic runs at roughly 31 million, with Austrian Airlines (Lufthansa Group) as the largest carrier and a strong programme to eastern and south-eastern Europe alongside the standard western European and North American routes. The airport is also the main hub for Wizz Air’s central European operations and a base for easyJet.

The passenger complex has four nominal terminals (1, 1A, 2 and 3) within a single integrated building, plus the General Aviation Terminal for private flights. Terminal 3 is the newest area, opened in 2012, and handles Austrian Airlines and Star Alliance long-haul. Terminal 1 covers Wizz Air, easyJet and a mix of European carriers.

Getting from Vienna Airport to Vienna

The City Airport Train (CAT) is the fastest non-stop public service, taking 16 minutes from VIE to Wien Mitte with departures every 30 minutes from around 06:00 to 23:30. The S7 S-Bahn train serves the same route in 25 to 30 minutes with intermediate stops at a lower fare.

For door-to-door comfort, a pre-booked private transfer takes 20 to 35 minutes via the A4 motorway and the inner ring road, with luggage handled at both ends and the driver waiting in the arrivals hall with a name sign. For early morning flights, late arrivals, families or anyone heading to a hotel that is a walk from Wien Mitte, a private transfer is the smoother option.

Terminals and pickup points

VIE operates a single integrated terminal complex with all arrivals funnelling through one baggage reclaim and a single arrivals hall on the ground floor. The meeting point for pre-booked transfers is near the central exit doors of the arrivals hall, regardless of which terminal section your aircraft used for landing. The driver holds a name sign at the agreed spot and walks you to the short-stay pickup area outside the terminal.

For departures, drop-off is at the kerbside on the departures level of the relevant terminal section, with the driver confirming which entrance fits your airline at booking.
