About Haneda Airport
Haneda Airport, formally Tokyo International Airport (HND), is the closer of Tokyo’s two airports and one of the busiest in the world, handling around 80 million passengers a year across three terminals. Terminal 1 hosts JAL and partner domestic flights, Terminal 2 hosts ANA domestic plus a growing slate of international services, and Terminal 3 was rebranded from the international terminal and houses long-haul carriers. The airport sits on reclaimed land in Ota ward on Tokyo Bay, with 24-hour operations on the international side and direct rail links to central Tokyo and Yokohama. The Edo Marketplace and the Tokyo Pop Town at Terminal 3 offer late-night dining and souvenirs for arriving and departing passengers.
Getting from HND to Tokyo
Haneda is only 14 km south of central Tokyo, which makes ground transfers fast. Ginza is 25 to 35 minutes, Shinjuku and Shibuya are 30 to 45 minutes, and Roppongi is 30 to 40 minutes outside rush hour. The Tokyo Monorail runs from each terminal to Hamamatsucho in 17 minutes, where the JR Yamanote line takes over. Keikyu trains link Haneda with Shinagawa and onward to Shibuya and Shinjuku in around 30 to 40 minutes. Private transfers come into their own for late arrivals, groups and travellers heading on to a Shinkansen at Tokyo Station, where lifting luggage at the changeovers can otherwise eat into the time saved by rail.
Terminals and pickup points
Haneda has three terminals connected by free shuttle bus and underground walkway, plus the Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu lines stopping at each. Pre-booked drivers wait at the Arrivals lobby meeting point near the information counter of your specific terminal, holding a name sign. The walk from arrivals to the pickup area is short and clearly signposted in English and Japanese. Porter assistance can be requested at booking, and wheelchair-accessible vehicles can be specified in the booking notes for passengers with reduced mobility.
Common transfer routes from HND
The most-booked rides from Haneda run to Ginza, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Roppongi, Asakusa and Tokyo Station, with onward Shinkansen connections to Kyoto, Osaka and beyond. Disneyland Resort at Maihama takes around 30 to 40 minutes, and Yokohama is 30 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. Hakone and Fuji-Hakone-Izu transfers take 90 to 120 minutes via the Tomei Expressway and are popular with first-time visitors heading straight to a ryokan. Longer rides reach the ski resorts at Karuizawa or the seaside town of Kamakura, both around 90 minutes from the airport outside peak traffic.
Booking your HND transfer
Pre-booking takes about two minutes. Enter your flight number, terminal and party size, then choose a saloon, minivan or minibus depending on luggage. The fare is fixed and includes expressway tolls, the driver tracks your flight with a 60-minute free wait, and free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before pickup. Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, iDEAL, Wero and Alipay are accepted. Child seats can be added for a small fee, and oversized luggage such as ski bags or surfboards can be flagged at booking so the right vehicle is dispatched.
