Barcelona Sants is the city’s main rail station and the country’s third busiest, handling more than 30 million passengers a year. It sits in the Sants-Montjuïc district about 3 km west of the historic centre, and is the southern terminus of the AVE high-speed corridor from Madrid. The fastest AVE services link Barcelona Sants to Madrid Atocha in 2 hours 30 minutes, with Seville and Malaga reachable in around 5 hours 30 minutes.

The station also handles regional trains across Catalonia, Rodalies commuter services and the connection to the French TGV network at Figueres-Vilafant. Metro lines 3 and 5 serve the station, along with multiple bus routes. The station is a single-level concourse with platforms below ground, and the main entrance opens onto Plaça dels Països Catalans.

Getting from Barcelona Sants Station to Barcelona

The drive to the historic centre runs along Carrer de Sants and Gran Via or Avinguda Diagonal, with typical journey times of 10 to 20 minutes. Hotels in Eixample, the Gothic Quarter and El Born sit within that window. Hotels at the Forum or on the northern beaches add 10 to 15 minutes during peak.

The metro from Sants to Plaça de Catalunya takes about 10 minutes on line 3 but adds escalators, a busy platform and a final walk with luggage. A pre-booked private transfer is door-to-door from the main station entrance.
