Málaga is the capital of the Costa del Sol and Andalusia’s second city, with around 590,000 residents in the urban area. Getting around

The historic centre is pedestrianised and walkable end to end in 20 minutes. A two-line metro and a dense bus network reach the suburbs and the beaches at Pedregalejo and El Palo. The Cercanías C1 commuter train links the airport, María Zambrano station and Fuengirola every 20 minutes. Best time to visit

April to June and September to October are the sweet spots, with daytime highs of 22 to 28 °C and the sea warm enough for swimming. Hotel demand spikes for each, and road traffic on the MA-20 ring road can be heavy.

Transferring from Málaga’s airports

Málaga Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) is the third busiest in mainland Spain after Madrid and Barcelona, with three terminals and tens of millions of passengers a year. It sits 8 km from the centre and 5 to 10 km from the eastern Costa del Sol resorts.
