About Málaga Port

Málaga Port is one of the most active cruise ports on the western Mediterranean, alongside Barcelona, Civitavecchia and Palma. It handles several hundred ship calls and around 500,000 cruise passengers a year, with two dedicated terminals on the Levante and Palmeral quays. The port is fully integrated with the city, with the Muelle Uno waterfront promenade, the Pompidou Centre Málaga and the cathedral all within walking distance.

The port has been redeveloped over the past 15 years, with the addition of Muelle Uno’s restaurants and shops and the relocation of the Pompidou Centre Málaga to a cube on the Palmeral quay. Cruise lines using Málaga as a regular port-of-call include MSC, Costa, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and Princess, with smaller luxury and expedition vessels using the inner berths.

Getting from Málaga Port to Málaga

The cruise terminals sit just east of the cathedral, about 10 minutes by car or 20 minutes on foot to most central hotels. A pre-booked transfer is the easiest way to move large groups or luggage to a hotel, the airport or another Costa del Sol resort. Operators monitor cruise arrival times so the driver is on the quay when guests clear the terminal.

Berths and pickup points

Málaga Port operates two passenger terminals:

  • Terminal A on the Levante quay, used by larger cruise ships.
  • Terminal B on the Palmeral quay (next to the Pompidou Centre), used by mid-sized cruise calls and turnarounds.

Pre-booked transfer drivers wait beside the terminal in use that day, with the exact pickup bay confirmed in the booking message before arrival.

Common transfer routes from Málaga Port

Typical routes from Málaga Port include:

  • Málaga Port to central Málaga hotels, around 10 minutes.
  • Málaga Port to AGP Airport, around 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Málaga Port to Torremolinos and Benalmádena, around 25 to 35 minutes.
  • Málaga Port to Marbella and Puerto Banús, around 60 minutes.
  • Málaga Port to Granada for shore excursions, around 90 minutes.

Shore-excursion transfers from Málaga Port frequently combine the city with one inland stop. Common pairings are Málaga and Antequera, Málaga and El Caminito del Rey or Málaga and Ronda, each manageable within a day in port. Operators time the return so the driver is back on the quay at least 60 minutes before the published all-aboard time.

Booking your Málaga Port transfer

Compare licensed Costa del Sol operators on this site for any Málaga Port pickup. You see one fixed price, with meet-and-greet on the quay and free cancellation up to 24 hours before sailing. Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay, iDEAL, Wero and PayPal are all supported.

For turnaround days, when a cruise ends in the morning and a new sailing boards in the afternoon, pre-booked transfers reduce the risk of being stranded in long taxi queues. Drivers know which terminal a given ship is using and can adjust pickup times if the disembarkation runs late. Vehicles can be sized from saloons up to 8-seat minibuses for larger groups, with child and infant seats available on request. Bookings can be made up to a few hours before pickup when capacity is available, although 24 to 48 hours ahead is recommended for fly-cruise turnaround days.
