About Málaga-María Zambrano Station
Málaga-María Zambrano is the principal railway station for Málaga and southern Andalusia, opened in its current form in 1908 and modernised for AVE high-speed services from 2007. It sits about 1 km west of the historic centre and handles the AVE high-speed line from Madrid via Córdoba, direct AVE services to Barcelona, plus Cercanías C1 and C2 commuter trains and the Costa del Sol regional services.
Direct daily Renfe AVE services link Málaga with Madrid Atocha in around 2h30, with three to four daily Avlo low-cost AVE departures supplementing the standard timetable. There are also direct AVE trains to Barcelona Sants in around 5h45, plus regional Avant trains to Córdoba, Seville and Granada. The station’s commercial concourse spans two levels with shops, food courts and car-rental desks.
Getting from Málaga-María Zambrano Station to Málaga
The station is around 7 minutes by car from the cathedral and the cruise port. A pre-booked transfer covers the short distance with luggage in a single fixed price, and continues smoothly to Málaga Airport, the eastern Costa del Sol or Marbella on the same booking. The Cercanías C1 also runs from inside the station to AGP Airport every 20 minutes.
Platforms and pickup points
María Zambrano has 12 platforms across long-distance and Cercanías levels, all linked by lifts and escalators. The main entrance opens onto the Explanada de la Estación. Pre-booked transfer drivers wait on the forecourt near the taxi rank, with a name sign for meet-and-greet. Pickup point details are confirmed in the booking message before arrival.

Booking your Málaga-María Zambrano Station transfer
Compare licensed Costa del Sol operators on this site for any María Zambrano pickup. You see one fixed price, with meet-and-greet at the station entrance and free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay, iDEAL, Wero and PayPal are all supported.
For travellers connecting from AVE onto a Costa del Sol resort, a pre-booked transfer avoids the complication of dragging luggage through the Cercanías platforms or onto an intercity bus. Operators monitor train delays the same way as flight delays, so a late arrival from Madrid does not cost you the onward ride. Vehicles can be sized from saloons up to 8-seat minibuses for larger groups, with child and infant seats available on request. Bookings can be made up to a few hours before pickup when capacity is available, although 24 to 48 hours ahead is recommended in peak summer.
