About Málaga Bus Station

Málaga Bus Station (Estación de Autobuses de Málaga) sits on Paseo de los Tilos, directly beside María Zambrano railway station. It is the Costa del Sol’s main coach hub, handling several thousand departures a week to destinations across Andalusia and on to Madrid, Lisbon and parts of Portugal’s Algarve. ALSA, Avanza and Damas are the principal operators, with local services to Marbella, Estepona, Nerja, Ronda and the Axarquía villages.

The bus station opened in its current form in 1988 and has been progressively expanded, with around 100 platforms, a covered concourse and ticket offices for each operator. It is the regional starting point for ALSA’s coach routes to Madrid (about 6 hours) and Seville (about 2h45), and for Damas and Avanza services to smaller Andalusian towns. Many of the airport-direct coach routes also use the station as an intermediate stop.

Getting from Málaga Bus Station to Málaga

The station is around 7 minutes by car from the cathedral and the cruise port, and a 20-minute walk into the historic centre. A pre-booked transfer covers the short hop with luggage for a fixed price, and the same booking can continue to AGP Airport, Marbella or a Costa del Sol resort. The adjacent María Zambrano station also offers Cercanías commuter trains to the airport.

Bays and pickup points

Bus arrivals and departures are split across numbered platforms on Paseo de los Tilos. Pre-booked transfer drivers wait at the main entrance facing the street, near the taxi rank, with a printed name sign. The exact pickup point is confirmed in the booking message in advance so there is no confusion on arrival.

Common transfer routes from Málaga Bus Station

Frequent transfer routes from the bus station include:

  • Bus Station to central Málaga and the cathedral, around 7 minutes.
  • Bus Station to AGP Málaga Airport, around 15 minutes.
  • Bus Station to Torremolinos and Benalmádena, around 25 to 35 minutes.
  • Bus Station to Marbella, around 60 minutes.
  • Bus Station to Nerja, around 60 to 75 minutes.

Groups arriving from Granada, Seville or Córdoba on long-distance coaches frequently book a transfer to bridge the final leg to a hotel or villa. Operators monitor the day’s coach timetable so a late arrival from another Andalusian city does not lose the booked ride. Pickup details are confirmed in advance to avoid confusion at the busy platforms.

Booking your Málaga Bus Station transfer

Compare licensed Costa del Sol operators on this site for any bus station pickup. You see one fixed price up front, with meet-and-greet at the main entrance and free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay, iDEAL, Wero and PayPal are all supported.

Groups arriving on coaches from inland Andalusia frequently use pre-booked transfers for the last leg to a coastal resort or to AGP for an onward flight. The fixed price covers the full vehicle rather than per-seat, which is usually cheaper than buying multiple taxi rides.
