About Málaga Airport
Málaga Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) is the third busiest in mainland Spain after Madrid Barajas and Barcelona El Prat, and the principal gateway to Andalusia. It handles more than 20 million passengers a year across two passenger terminals (T2 and T3), with a third older terminal preserved as a museum. The airport sits between the city of Málaga and the resorts of Torremolinos and Benalmádena, 8 km southwest of the city centre.
AGP is a major base for Ryanair, Vueling and easyJet, with strong long-haul presence from British Airways, Lufthansa and Air Nostrum. The airport is connected to the AP-7 toll-free coastal motorway and to the MA-20 ring road, which feeds the city, the cruise port and the routes east towards Nerja and Almería. Cercanías commuter rail platforms sit directly beneath the terminals.
Getting from Málaga Airport to Málaga
A pre-booked transfer to central Málaga typically takes 15 to 25 minutes via the MA-21 and N-340 corridor. The Cercanías C1 train links the airport to María Zambrano station and Fuengirola, and city buses run to the bus station, but for groups and families a private transfer is usually faster end to end with luggage. Drivers meet inside Terminal 3 arrivals with a name sign.
Terminals and pickup points
AGP’s passenger terminals are interconnected:
- Terminal 3 (T3): main terminal, used by most scheduled airlines including Iberia, Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways and Lufthansa.
- Terminal 2 (T2): older building used by some charter and overflow flights.
- Terminal 1: preserved as the Aeromuseo, not used for passenger flights.
Private transfer drivers wait in the T3 arrivals hall as standard, with short-stay car park P1 immediately outside.
Common transfer routes from Málaga Airport
Frequent routes from AGP include:
- AGP to central Málaga hotels and the cruise port, around 15 to 25 minutes.
- AGP to Torremolinos and Benalmádena, around 15 to 25 minutes.
- AGP to Fuengirola and Mijas, around 30 minutes.
- AGP to Marbella and Puerto Banús, around 45 to 60 minutes.
- AGP to Nerja and Frigiliana, around 60 to 75 minutes.
- AGP to Granada, around 90 minutes.
Longer transfers from AGP also serve inland Andalusia. Antequera and El Caminito del Rey are around 50 to 60 km north, and Ronda is 100 km west. Operators can quote one-way trips to either destination, or a split-day private hire where the driver waits at the site for a few hours before continuing to a resort.
Booking your Málaga Airport transfer
Use the search on this site to compare licensed Costa del Sol operators for any AGP route. You see one fixed price up front, with meet-and-greet at the terminal, flight tracking and free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay, iDEAL, Wero and PayPal are all accepted.
Families travelling to the Costa del Sol regularly choose people-carrier transfers over taxis to fit pushchairs and golf bags. Booking a single fixed price avoids the variable surcharges that local taxis apply for evening, weekend and luggage trips, and the price is locked in at the moment of booking regardless of currency fluctuations.
