About Milano Centrale Station
Milano Centrale is the main railway terminus of Milan and one of the largest stations in Europe by floor area. It opened in its current form in 1931, a vast travertine and granite building with a 72 metre high glazed train shed covering 24 platforms. Around 120 million passengers move through Centrale each year, on a mix of Trenitalia long-distance services, Italo high-speed trains, Trenord regional commuters and the Malpensa Express.
Frecciarossa services from Centrale link Milan with Rome in around 3 hours, Naples in 4 hours 30 minutes, Venice in 2 hours 15 minutes, Turin in 50 minutes and Bologna in 1 hour. Italo runs a similar high-speed programme on most of the same routes. The station also serves as the Milan terminus for the Eurostar-style EuroCity services to Switzerland and the night trains to Munich and Vienna.
Getting from Milano Centrale to Milan
Centrale is connected to the M2 (green) and M3 (yellow) metro lines, with services every two to four minutes to the Duomo and other central stops. By road, the city centre is 10 to 20 minutes away, depending on traffic on the radial avenues that feed Piazza Repubblica and the Ring.
For early morning trains, late arrivals or travellers with multiple bags, a pre-booked private transfer between Centrale and your hotel removes the need to roll suitcases on metro stairs. The driver meets you in Piazza Duca d’Aosta in front of the station facade with a name sign, then drives directly to the address you provided at booking.
Station and pickup points
The main facade of Centrale faces Piazza Duca d’Aosta, with the Pirelli Tower visible across the square. Pre-booked transfer pickups happen on the curb in front of the facade or at the side access on Via Sammartini, depending on time of day and traffic regulations. The driver confirms the meeting spot before arrival.
For arrivals into Centrale, exit the platforms onto the upper concourse, follow signs to the main exit on Piazza Duca d’Aosta, and look for the name sign at the agreed meeting point. Lifts and escalators serve the lower-level metro and street exits, useful with heavy luggage.
