About Milano Linate Airport
Milano Linate (LIN) is the closest of Milan’s airports to the city centre, sitting 8 km east of the Duomo on the edge of the Forlanini and Forlanini Park districts. The airport handles around 9 million passengers a year, almost entirely on European short-haul routes, with ITA Airways, easyJet and Lufthansa Group carriers leading the schedules. A single passenger terminal handles all flights, reorganised after a 2019 refurbishment.
Linate was historically the business shuttle airport for Milan, with frequent flights to Rome Fiumicino, Frankfurt, Paris and London. The opening of the M4 metro line to San Babila in late 2024 gave the airport a fast city-centre rail link for the first time, with a 12 minute journey from terminal to the Ring.
Getting from Milano Linate to Milan
By car, central Milan is 15 to 25 minutes from Linate via Viale Forlanini and the inner ring road. A pre-booked private transfer hands the parking, traffic routing and luggage straight to the driver, with a fixed price agreed in advance and a name sign in arrivals. The new M4 metro is the fastest public option for hotels near San Babila, Sant’Ambrogio or San Cristoforo, taking 12 to 25 minutes from the airport.
Coach service 73 runs to San Babila in 25 to 35 minutes for travellers without heavy luggage, while the X73 limited-stop coach is slightly quicker outside peak times. For most early morning departures or families with multiple bags, a private transfer is the smoother option.
Terminals and pickup points
Linate operates a single passenger terminal. For arrivals, exit baggage reclaim into the main hall and walk to the central meeting area on the ground floor by the exit doors. The driver holds a name sign and walks you to the short-stay pickup area outside the terminal.
For departures, drop-off is at the kerbside on the departures level. Most airlines use the same check-in zone, and the layout is compact enough that walks from kerb to gate are typically under 10 minutes.
