Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) is Norway’s busiest airport, handling around 25 million passengers in a typical year. It is the primary hub for Norwegian, SAS and Widerøe, and the country’s main gateway for long-haul intercontinental flights. The airport sits 47 km north of central Oslo, just off the E6 motorway, and was rebuilt in 1998 to replace the older Fornebu site.

OSL has a single integrated passenger terminal, with one large arrivals hall serving both Schengen and non-Schengen flights. The recent terminal expansion added a north pier and additional gates, but the meet-and-greet area in arrivals remains in a single central location.

Getting from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Oslo

The drive from OSL to a central Oslo hotel typically takes 45 minutes on the E6 motorway, covering 47 km. The morning peak (07:00 to 09:00) and the evening peak (15:30 to 17:30) can stretch the journey to an hour. A pre-booked private transfer is often the calmest option, particularly when arriving with luggage on a long-haul flight from Asia or North America.

The Flytoget Airport Express train is a popular alternative, but it drops only at Oslo Central Station, after which you typically need a second leg with luggage to your hotel.
