Oslo Central Station, known locally as Oslo S, is the main railway hub of Norway. It sits at the eastern end of the Karl Johans gate axis, a five-minute walk from the Opera House and the city centre. Oslo S handles around 150,000 passengers a day across long-distance services to Bergen, Trondheim and Stockholm, regional commuter routes, the Vy InterCity network and the Flytoget Airport Express to Gardermoen.

The station shares its concourse with the Jernbanetorget metro and tram interchange, the busiest public transport node in Norway.

Getting from Oslo Central Station to Oslo

Oslo S sits already in the city centre, so transfers from it are typically short hops to specific hotels, the cruise port or onward airports. A drive to a Frogner or Grünerløkka hotel takes around 10 minutes outside rush hour. The Jernbanetorget taxi rank is directly outside the main entrance, accessible from the main concourse.

A pre-booked private transfer is the simplest option when arriving with luggage from a long-distance train, especially in winter when carrying skis or heavy cases up and down metro stairs is awkward.

Terminals and pickup points

The station has main exits onto Jernbanetorget (front) and Schweigaards gate (rear). The Jernbanetorget exit is the standard pickup zone for pre-booked private vehicles. Drivers hold a name sign with the lead passenger’s surname.

If you need step-free access from the platforms, lifts connect each platform to the main concourse. Mention any accessibility needs during booking.
