Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) is Sweden’s largest airport and the main hub for the country’s international traffic, handling around 26 million passengers in a typical year. It sits 42 km north of central Stockholm and 35 km south of Uppsala, with the E4 motorway running directly past the airport entrance.

Arlanda has four passenger terminals arranged around the central SkyCity complex. Terminal 5 handles long-haul and most international flights, Terminal 2 handles further international services, and Terminal 4 is the primary domestic terminal. Terminal 3 handles a small share of domestic routes.

Getting from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Stockholm

The drive from Arlanda to a central Stockholm hotel typically takes 40 minutes on the E4 motorway. During the morning peak (07:30 to 09:00) and the evening peak (16:00 to 18:00), the journey can extend to an hour. A pre-booked private transfer is the most predictable option, with the driver meeting you in arrivals and the fare fixed at booking.

For a more scenic journey along the Baltic coast, drivers can take Roslagsvägen via Danderyd into Östermalm, which is similar in time outside rush hour.

Terminals and pickup points

All terminals share the same arrivals concept. After baggage reclaim, head into the public arrivals hall and look for the meet-and-greet area, where drivers wait with name signs. If you are connecting between terminals, the SkyCity walkway is the easiest route on foot.
