About Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

Charles de Gaulle (CDG, also known as Roissy) is France’s largest airport and the second-busiest in Europe by passenger volume, handling around 70 million travellers in a typical year. It sits 30 km north-east of central Paris in the commune of Roissy-en-France and is the main hub of Air France and a major base for the SkyTeam alliance.

The airport has three terminals: Terminal 1, the original circular 1970s building used mainly by Star Alliance and non-aligned carriers; Terminal 2, a long arc of seven halls (2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F and 2G) where Air France and its partners operate; and Terminal 3, a smaller satellite for low-cost and charter flights. A free automated CDGVAL shuttle links them inside the airport perimeter.

Getting from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Paris

CDG connects to central Paris by the RER B suburban rail, by Roissybus to Opéra, by regular taxi from the official ranks at each terminal, and by pre-booked private car. The RER B is the fastest fixed-cost public option at around 35 minutes to Gare du Nord, but it involves stairs and changes that are awkward with luggage and young children. Regular taxis run on a flat fare to central Paris, but in practice waiting times at the rank can stretch to 30 to 45 minutes at peak periods.

A pre-booked private transfer eliminates the rank queue. The driver is already in the arrivals hall when you walk out of customs, the price is fixed at booking with no late-night surcharge, and you go straight from baggage reclaim to the short-stay car park.

Terminals and pickup points

Each CDG terminal has its own arrivals hall and short-stay car park where drivers wait:

  • Terminal 1: meet at the Meeting Point in the arrivals level (CDGVAL access to Terminals 2 and 3)
  • Terminal 2: separate arrivals exits for halls 2A, 2C, 2D, 2E and 2F; your driver waits at the exit matching your boarding pass
  • Terminal 3: a single compact arrivals hall, useful for low-cost and charter flights

When you book, add the terminal so the driver positions correctly. If your terminal changes last minute, contact details for the driver are in your confirmation email.
