About Paris Gare du Nord

Gare du Nord is the busiest railway station in Europe, handling roughly 220 million passengers a year across its 31 platforms. Opened in 1846 and rebuilt in its current Beaux-Arts form in 1864, the station sits in the 10th arrondissement and serves as the Paris terminus for the Eurostar to London, Brussels-bound and Amsterdam-bound services, TGV trains to Lille and the Channel coast, and a dense network of RER B, RER D and Transilien commuter lines.

The grand front façade on rue de Dunkerque carries 23 statues representing cities served by the original Compagnie du Nord. Inside, the international Eurostar zone has its own check-in, security and passport hall, separated from the domestic concourse. The metro hub below the station is on lines 4 and 5.

Getting from Paris Gare du Nord to Paris

Gare du Nord is in central Paris already, so most short hops are on foot, by metro (lines 4 and 5), or by RER B and D. For onward journeys to hotels with luggage, to the airports, or to suburban destinations including Disneyland Paris, a pre-booked private car is the easier choice. The fare is fixed at booking and a licensed local driver is on the forecourt with a name sign when you step out of the station.

For travellers stepping off the Eurostar after a 2 hour 20 minute crossing from London, the forecourt pickup is the quickest way to get bags into a vehicle without negotiating the metro stairs. Drivers track Eurostar arrivals where possible and you have 60 minutes of free wait time from the scheduled arrival slot, which is generous enough to absorb the occasional Channel Tunnel delay. Many travellers transfer onward to Disneyland Paris (around 40 km east of the station) or directly to Charles de Gaulle if their Paris stop is a connection rather than a destination.

Platforms and pickup points

Gare du Nord has dedicated platform groups:

  • Eurostar (platforms 3 – 6): international arrivals exit on the east side, leading to rue de Dunkerque
  • Thalys (platforms 7 – 9): shared concourse with TGV Nord
  • TGV / Intercités (platforms 10 – 21): main domestic concourse
  • Transilien / RER (lower level): commuter platforms below ground

All pickups happen on the rue de Dunkerque forecourt directly in front of the main façade. If you arrive on Eurostar, leave through the international arrivals exit and walk straight ahead through the concourse to the front doors.
